GLOUCESTER’S TRAGIC SLIP.

United Service. London, August 16. Following are the county cricket results.
Essex v. Middlesex. —Esjsex in the first innings made 152 (Wilcox 71) and in the second 165 (Franklin 77; Peebles took five wickets for 56), Middlesex in the first innings made 197 (Hendren 89; Smith took four wickets for 50) and in the second 123 for four wickets. Middlesex won by six wickets, Sussex v. Gloucester. —Sussex in the first innings made 263 (Duleepsinhji 63; Parker took four wickets for 76 and Goddard six for 85) and in the second 116 (Parker took seven wickets for 49). Gloucester in the first innings made 214 (Lyon 62; Bowley took five wickets foi--64) and in the second 164 (Dipper 69; Langridge took five wickets for 72). Sussex won by one run. Nottinghamshire v. Warwickshire. — -Nottingham in the first innings made 311 (Walker not out 133). Warwick in the first innings made 71 (Voce took four wickets for 21 and Staples five for 34) and followed on, making 172 (Bates 71; Voce took -six for 76 and Staples four for 70). Nottingham won by an innings and 68 runs. Yorkshire v. Derbyshire.—Yorkshire in the first innings made 287 (Robinson 95) and in the second 269 for five wickets and declared (Holmes 100, Leyland not out 61. Derbyshire in the first innings made 226 (Hutchinson not out 68; Dennis took four wickets for 45 and McAuley five for 62) and in the second innings 121 for two wickets. Yorkshire won on the first innings.
Surrey v. Somerset. —Surrey in the first innings made 321 (Hobbs 134, Gregory 67; White took eight wickets for 113) and in the second 140 (White took five wickets for 41). Somerset in the first innings made 184 (Fender took four wickets for 55) and in the second 116 '(Peach took six wickets for 38). Surrey won by 161 runs. Leicestershire v. Glamorganshire.— Leicester in the first innings made 102 and in the second 141. Glamorgan in the first innings made 160 and in the second 68 (Geary took ten wickets for 18). Leicester won by 15 runs. Geary's feat becomes a record for English first-class cricket. Bill Howell’s ten wickets for 28 against Surrey was the previous best. A tragic slip may cost Gloucester the county championship. At the fall of the eighth wicket they wanted 20 to win. Barnett and Parker scored 17 in two overs, Parker attempted a third run from a snick to the slips, but Barnett sent him back. There was plenty of time for Parker to regain his crease, but he fell and was run out.
