BIG FIRE IN DUNEDIN
EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Nigiit. A disastrous fire occurred at the ■Strand Tea Rooms in the Octagon at two o’clock tliis morning. A police patrol saw flames ...sting through the roof of the rooms anil sent for the brigade. The fire obtained a strong hold before it was extinguished, very great damage being done. The flames spread to the prenijea occupied by the Misses A. and .1. Gallagher as a clothing Shop, where considerable damage was done to stock; to Patterson’s (outfitters); to Hamer’S (fruiterers); to the American Candy Co., and to Gourlay’s pork shop, which contributed largely to the damage done. Insurances were held by the Standard Co., which also holds the insurance on the contents of the tearooms and the premises occupied by the Misses Gallagher. Patterson’s insurance was held by the Alliance .Co., Hamer’s by the Northern Co., and the America : Candy Co. and Gourlay’s in the Sun Office, but the amounts are not available.
