HOLIDAY IN DUNEDIN
TRANSPORT RECORDS BROKEN. By Telegraph.- Pres* Aaioclaliea. Dunedin, Last Night. The weather for the holidays in Dunedin was warm and pleasant, In contrast to that prevailing during the previous week, and the various pleasure resorts and seaside beaches were largely thronged. The town presented a very quiet appearance on New Year’s Day. The previous evening crowds were in the streets, the mild conditions attracting large numbers.
On Saturday the principal attraction was the cricket match between Auckland and Otago. The harbour resorts drew crowds and the regatta at Broad Bay had an attendance of about 4000, being one of the most successful of the kind ever held.
Both inward and outward traffic on the railways constitute a record over all previous years except the exhibition year, and the trams similarly had heavy takings. Fleets of buses ran over various routes on sight-eeeing tours, and were liberally patronised, while the Wnikouaiti races had a large attendance and a most successful meeting.
