KINEMA THEATRE CLOSED

RETALIATION IN SUNDAY WORK. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. New York. Dec. 13. At Irvington, New Jersey, the police recently closed the kinemas. In retaliation theatre-goers invoked a statute dated 1798, which forbade citizens engaged in occupations for gain or playing fiddles or games on Sundays. On the following Monday morning 40 citizens were fined for trading, participating in games, and other offences. The offenders included newspaper reporters and motor car employees. The citizens are now appealing to the Legislature to cancel the archaic laws.
