MAN-EATING TIGER

In hunting a man-eating tiger which had terrorised the Shilar district for three years Lewis, an official of the East Indian railways, and Bathgate, an exair officer, came face to face with the animal. Lewis fired and hit the tiger, which attacked him. Bathgate, who was unarmed, struck the animal on the head with a hatchet. It sprang at him, tore off his arm, then returned and killed Lewis and made off into tlje jungle.
