COUNTY OFFICE BURGLED

NEARLY FIFTY POUNDS TAKEN. VARIOUS SOCIETIES SUFFER. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Manaia, Last Night, It was disclosed at the Waimate West County Council meeting on Thursday that thieves had entered the office of the county between 5 p.m. on Friday evening and 8.30 on Saturday morning. Details are at present meagre, but it is understood that nearly £4O was taken in eash. Entry was effected by the use of keys, those of the assistant being missing. The strongroom was entered and the cash abstracted from the safe. The county clerk, Mr. V. H, Hobday, is secretary of a number of societies, and it was from the funds of these that the loss has been sustained. Amongst those bodies which sustained loss are the Waimate West County Council, the Manaia M.U.1.0.0.F. Lodge, the Hawera Electric Light Company, arid the Manaia Building and Investment Society. The police have had the matter in hand.
