SMALL BOY’S TROLLEY.
MENACE TO TRAFFIC. WARNING TG PARENTS. “The next time I bring a case of this sort before the Court I am going to ask Your Worship to inflict a fine on the parents to bring them to a sense of their responsibilities in this connection,” said Mr. R. Day (chief inspector) to Mr. A. M. Mowlem, S.M., in the Court at New Plymouth yesterday when prosecuting a small boy for running his trolley on the road. Mr. Day said that the boy had used his trolley in Gover Street and he and a youth who was being examined for a motor driver’s certificate had had to follow him for about a chain before they could pass. They had slowed up to enable the boy to get off the road, and it had been quite obvious that he had not heard them coming. Had the boy got in front of a car of which the driver had had a few drinks it was certain there would have been an accident. Mr. Day added that he did not ask for a penalty in the present case. He had brought it as a further warning to boys and parents. The Magistrate warned the boy of the dangers to himself and others caused by the use of trolleys on the road, and advised him to warn other boys of the menace. The lad was admonished and discharged.
