STRATFORD NEWS.

AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATIONS. THEIR VALUE TO MOTORISTS. (From Our Own Reporter.) / Stratford, June I'B. There is cause for congratulation in the decision of motorists in and around Stratford to form a branch of the South Taranaki Automobile Association at Stratford. The benefits which motorists, both as a body and individually, will receive from linking up with a live organisation such as the South Taranaki Association were fully explained by delegates from the southern end of the province, who waited on last night’s inaugural meeting. Nobody who owns a motor should be deterred from becoming a member, as the subscription is surprisingly low, and the advantages so numerous that membership is a sound step even if looked at from the purely commercial aspect. A member of an automobile association which is affiliated with the parent body enjoys the privilege of accommodation arrangements at selected hotels at a reduced rate. In some cases this reduction will more than pay the cost of membership, even on a very short tour. It is on the road, however, that the motorist has cause to thank automobile 'associations. Anyone who has toured m South Auckland and adjacent districts must have been struck by the comprehensive system of sign posts at nearly every intersection, and if it happens to be a cold, wet drive the motorist will appreciate the silent wooden finger and the printed word which guides him on liis way without the necessity of tramping to nearby houses for directions. Many other instances of the usefulness of such organisations could be given. PROGRESS OF CARD COMPETITION. The Druids met Tuna at cards last night and had a good victory.
