RETURNED SOLDIERS.

THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE. NO CHANGE IN ANZAC DAY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The conference of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association was con tinned to-day. It was resolved to approach the exhibition directors to secure employment for partially disabled soldiers during the exhibition. It was suggested that lists of suitable men should 'be compiled by the various branches and forwarded to . the Dunedin branch. i The conference affirmed a definite policy of Anzac Day observance on April 25. It was resolved that the conference affirm the principle of restricting the benefits of the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Act to eligible discharged soldiers, and where a returned soldier sells his property the loan should, be repaid, not transferred to a civilian, except in an enforced sale by the Crown. The principle was affirmed that where a discharged soldier holding a loan is transferred to another locality, he should not bf debarred from securing a fresh advance to establish a new home. Tn connection with South African and Maori-War veterans, it was decided that the Government be asked to give sympathetic consideration to the claims of the veterans of the South African and Maori Wars, who, from the point of view of enlistment, are long residents in New Zealand, and who are in necessitous circumstances, and if necessary legislation be asked for in this direction. The election of officers resulted: President, Colonel IT. Stewart (Canterbury!; vice-president, Mr. W. Perry /Wellington) ; bon. treasurer, Mr. J. D. Harper; Dominion executive, Wellington Messrs. A. T. Duncan, J. W. Blinkhard, D G. Munro (executive standing subcommittee) ; Auckland. Messrs. Austin Carr, M. A. Aldred: Nelson and Marlborough. Mr. N. A. Vercoe; Canterbury, Messrs. W. E.
