Professor Calmette, lecturing, before the Academy of Medicine, detailed the results of experiments with a new method for the vaccination of new-born babies against tuberculosis. The vaccine is known as calmette-guerin, and the baccilus is supplied by the Pasteur Institute. Out of 137 children belonging to contaminated families treated during the first half of 1922 with the anti-tuberculosis vaccine, none had died of any illness which which was the outcome of tuberculosis, whereas the mortality among non-vaccin-ated children living under similar conditions in Paris was 32 per cent. The vaccine is administered in a spoonful of milk every forty-eight hours from, the third to the tenth day after birth.
