WANGANUI TOURNAMENT. CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY. SEMI-FINALS REACHED. By Telegraph.—-Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. The M’anganul golf tournament was continued to-day. Rain fell all the afternoon. The results of the flfst round of the championship are: J. Goss beat Dr. Williams 5 up and 3; Imlay Saunders beat E. Knight 4 up and 3; F. H. Latham beat D. G. Beaven 1 up at the 20th; S. Powdrell beat Willock 1 up; S. M. Dodgshun beat J. Mac Neil 3 up and 2; K. Goldlngham beat F. 8. Parkes 1 up at the 19th; J. S. Harrison beat D. Meldrum 3 up and 1 ; J. M. Hussey beat P. Parsons 2 up and 1. In the second round Goss beat Latham 4 up and 2; Saunders beat Powdrell 3 up and 2; Dodgshun beat Goldlngham 4 up and 3; Hussey beat Harrison 2 up and 1. To-morrow morning the semi-finals will be played as follows: Goss v. Saunders; Hussey v. Dodgshun. The final will be played in the afternoon. NOTES ON THE PLAY NEW PLYMOUTH COMPETITORS. (By Wire—Special to News.) Wanganui, Last Night. The Wanganui tournament was continued today with light rain falling almost continuously. Goss and Imlay Saunders and Dodgshun and Hussey play In the semi-finals of the championship to-morrow morning. The first pair are both playing splendid golf and a keen contest is anticipated. Dodgshun, the Gisborne champion, is also in good form, and should account for Hussey. The Gisborne player returned the best gross score to-day (79), 38 out and 41 in. The New Plymouth players were again troubled by the greens, Hasell’s 1 down being the best in the morning, and Stephenson’s 93—13—30 the best in the afternoon. Several of the Waverley players are showing good form and the inter-club match with New Plymouth qu Saturday should be very interesting.
