THE ASSOCIATION GAME. NEW PLYMOUTH V. TAiRAINAKI. The teams to represent Taranaki and New Plymouth in the Association match to be played on the sportsground, Pukekura Park, to-morrow, are as follows: TaranaJd (chocolate and gold).—Goal, Renwivk (Hawera) ; backs, Bettriclge (Manala), Beare (Hawera) ; half-backs, Barker (Eltham). Pooch (Hawera), Brown (Aurou) ; forwards, Plant (Auroa), Galloway (Hawera), A. Campbell (Kaponga), .1. Campbell (Hawera), H. Pollard (Kaponga). New Plymouth (black and white). —Goal, Royston: backs, Holmes, Matthews; half-backs, 1. Thomson, Hughes, Herdson; forwards. Bell, Shepherd (ex-representative), P. Thomson (exrepresentative), Harlow (ex-representative), DarweJl. Reserves: Forward, Mells; half, Skyjellerup; back, South. As the public of New Plymouth have had very few opportunities to witness and become conversant with the rulings of Association, the following points may prove of some benefit:— With the exception of the goalkeeper, the ball must not be played with the hands (from shoulder downwards constitutes hands). A goalkick Is awarded when an opponent sends the ball over the bur or behind either afide of the goal posts. Free-kicks are awarded for playing the 'ball with the hands, or for a foul (trip ping, kicking or jumping), and for the wrong method of throwing the ball in from the touch-line. A penalty kick is awarded for handling or fouling an opponent within the penalty area, which is marked off 18 yards from either side of the goal-posts and 18 yards in front of the goal, goalkeeper only belnfc allowed to play the ball. The kick is taken id yards from the goal.
