SERIES OF THEFTS.
MAORI YOUTH ADMITS GUILT. By Telegraph.—Press Associat’on. Dunedin, Last NightJohn Selwyn Matthews, a Maori youth, was charged in the Police Court to-day with having broken and entered the Seacliff railway station on Septemfber 6 and stolen the sum of £5 19s 6d. the property of the Government, and one gold expanding wristlet watch valued at £lO, the property of the Postmaster-General, the total value being £l5 19s 6d. He was also charged with, on or about August 22, breaking and entering the shop of Alexander Crow, of Seacliff, and stealing £5 and one electric torch valued at Ils, the total value being £5 Ils, and also with breaking and entering the same shop on September 9 and stealing one box of chocolates, two padlocks, one electric torch, two schoolbags, a number of stamps, .and 300 rounds of ammunition, the total value being £8 2s. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence, bail being allowed in self £5O and one surety of £5O.
