This is a reversal of its previous attitude and encouraged Sun i at Sen to make preposterous demands from Hong Kong. The paper comments sevejply on the Governor’s action, vhen the Powers had unanimously decided to act for th ' protection and integrity of the Custom-, m receiving and conferring with Sun Yat Sen’s emissary. Hong Kong must elect net ween subservience to any political charlatan who happens temporarily to be in power at Canton or an attitude of complete aloofness from Kwangtung’s quarrels. The latter is the only course consistent with British self-respect The paper does not think American and British Labourite’s will be misled by Sun Yat Sen’s gross tions of the actual issue, which is waether the Customs revenues, which Have remained intact throughout the years of Chinese chaos, shall be preserved from local interference or become the spoils of quarrelsome and self-seek-ing militants and politicians in all parts of the country.
