WAR MEMORIAL.
CENOTAPH TO COST £2OOO. PLANS TO BE PREPARED. A FURTHER APPEAL. A meeting of the New Plymouth War Memorial Committee was held last night, the Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson) presiding, and there being also present: Mesdames E. Dockrill and C. H. Weston, and Messrs. W. J. Penn, V. Griffiths, J. S. Connett, C. Carter, C H. Weston, A. M. Mac Diarmid, A. B. Gibson, C. E. Bellringer, W. H. Skinner, T. C. List and Archdeacon Evans. It was resolved to invite Mr. F. Messenger, as senior architect of the town, to act as architect, and to prepare plans and estimates of a cenotaph to cost approximately £2OOO. Messrs. C. H. Weston, W. H Skinner, J S. Connett and the chairman were appointed a committee to confer with the architect. In reply to a question the chairman stated that the fund now amounted to about £lB5O. Several local companies and institutions are to be circularised inviting them to contribute to the fund. It was also decided to make a further appeal to those who had not yet contributed.
