The death of Mr. G. Freeme, a dentist, of Patea, occurred at the Pukeora Sanatorium on Monday. Mr. A. Robertson, second assistant secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, is on an official visit to New Plymouth. Mr. H. R. Duller, of the New Plymouth railway service, left for Frankton Junction, having been transferred there in his capacity as a railway guard. During his service of many

years on the railways in this district, Mr. Duller made a wide circle of friends, who will much regret his departure. Dr. A. B. Fitt has been appointed to the newly-established chair of Education at Auckland 'University. There were 21 applicants from Australia, Africa, Britain and Canada. Dr. Fitt, who is vice-president of the Auckland Training College, is a prominent authority on mental psychology and mental philosophy. He is M.A. of New Zealand and P.H.D. of Leipzig. He has held positions in New Zealand , Africa and Melbourne.—Press Assn. Professor A. C. Paterson, of the Transvaal University College, Pretoria, has been appointed Professor of Glassies at Auckland University from twelve applicants, says a Press Association telegram. Professor Paterson, who is forty-eight years old, is B.A. Edin and B.A. Oxon. He has been in South Africa since 1903. Subsequently he was appointed Professor of Latin at Pretoria and was successively registrar and rector, resigning the latter position last year.
