CARGO BROACHING.

COAL TRIMMERS SENTENCED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, July 7. Two coal trimmers belonging to the steamer Cumberland at the Queen’s wharf got into number 5 hold on Thursday night, searched with a lighted candle, and finding open cases removed clothing valued at £9 18s, which they secreted under their bunks. When warned that a general search was impending one man threw the stolen goods down the ship’s funnel, where they were damaged beyond use. Commenting on the danger of the lighted candle in the hold, the Magistrate sentenced Reginald Boyton, aged 20, to a month’s imprisonment, and George Stiff, aged 20, to 12 months’ imprisonment.
