COAL STRIKE IN AUSTRALIA.
DISCUSSING THE PROPOSALS. By Telegraph.—Press Assa.—Copyright Sydney, July 7.' Representatives of the owners and the miners will discuss with the principals during the week-end Mr. Oakes’ proposals for a settlement. Following an intimation by the owners that they desired to dismiss 80 men who were mainly responsible fot the disaffection in various mines, Mr. Oakep proposed that the owners reduce the number of men whose services were to be dispensed with, that the names be submitted to the Miners’ Federation, and that a secret ballot be taken on the question of resumption. The conference will probably resume on Wednesday.
