THE SEARCH FOR GOLD.

BIG SCHEME IN HAND. WORK FOR 2000 MEN. . Dunedin, Jan. 15. A big scheme is reported to be in hand to recover gold in the Kawarau river, in Central Otago. It is proposed to dam the river at the falls, shutting off the stream for eighty days in the year, where the Kawarau leaves Lake Wakatipu at Frankton • and joins the Clutha river, which is 32 miles. Full rights have been applied for over the whole length. It is estimated that 2000 men will find employment on the works. It is estimated that thousands of ounces are hidden in crevices and holes in the river, the bottom of which will be exposed. Many parties have pegged claims.
