LABOR DAY SPORTS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Sept. 22. A committee meeting of the above wai held on Tuesday evening, Mr.' Garth pre> siding. The sub-committee reported on a suitable programme which was well received. It was decided to add a horse-jumping competition and seven-a-side football tournament. The matter of arranging for a luncheon and refreshment stall was left in the hands of Mesdames Spurdle anil Young. Mr. J. R. Bennett, who was appointed secretary at the last meeting, asked to be relieved of the position, and it was resolved to ask Mr. R. Baker to act. The names of Messrs. R. Pennington, 6. Skelton and W. Telfar were added to the committee. The Waitara Municipal Band is to be engaged to play selections on the day. A vote of sympathy was passed to Mr. W. Procter in his continued lons illness, and hope was expressed for his speedy recovery. GENERaL. Probate of the will of the late G. W. Foster, of Tikovangi Road, was on Monday last granted by his Honor Sir John Salmond to Mr. C. R. Stead, the executor in the will. Rather a painful accident befel Mr. S. G. Fraser, a local storekeeper, ort Tuesday. He was in the act of cutting bacon with a machine when his finger came m contact with the knife, resulting in his losing the index finger of the left hand from the first joint. Dr. Campbell attended the sufferer, who afterwards went into the liqsj. t:il for further treatment. The vacancy on the Borough Council caused by the death of Mr. Beckbessi inger is not being rushed by Aspirants to public life. So far no nominations have been received, and the date for same closes on Tuesday next. Mr. 11. Bezzant, who was at one time in business as a tailor here, is on a visit to his daughter, Mrs. L. Clare. He is far from well, having just had a severe ;«itack of rheumatism. It is Mr. Bezzant's intention to settle in New Plymouth. The following is the 2nd Junior team to meet Kaponga at Eltham on Saturdav to decide the championship in this division: Jupp, R. Pennington, Southwall, Rackley, Procter, Knuckey, Guinea, V. Pennington, Cole, Tanner, St. George, Telfar, BJanchard. E. Frost, Laurent. Emergencies: K. Lye, R. Frost. Mr. Les. Sampson, who has been on the office staff of Messrs. T. Borthwick and Sons' for a number of years, takes up a similar position with Newton King, Ltd., early next month. Mr. Jas. Telfar who has been a'resident here since a boy, a matter of 46 years, left for his new home at Wanganui on Saturday last. Mr. Telfar was employed in the blacksmithing department at Borthwick's commonly called the "Black Squad", and on the eve ol his departure was entertained by his fellow workers and engine-room staff.
