' September 23. A meeting of directors of the Stratford Mountain Hostel Company was held on Tuesday, when there were present: Messrs. J.'w. McMillan (chairman), A. W. Budge, W. P. Kirkwood, S. Pitt, P. Thomson, and J. B. Richards. Mr. Richards reported having interviewed the Minister of Public Works, who gave an assurance that the amount of £3500 would be placed on the Estimates again, and that the work of metalling the track would be proceeded with as speedily as possible. Mr. Richards also reported having interviewed the Public Works resident engineer, who stated 'that the work of opening a quarry would be started , immediately. Mr. Hrkwood stated that' an officer of the Public Works Department has already commenced work in this latter connection. ? The difficulty of securing a stonecrusher was discussed, and Messrs."Pitt and liichards appointed to make enquiry towafdjgjjAistiug the Public Works DepartjHKo hire one. During the discussion on this inVter, the directors expressed the opinion'that in view of the great advantage which will accrue to the general public, every opportunity should be accorded to them to take up shares. By so doing, they will not only assist and be associated with «tlie development of an asset invaluable to the town and district, but they will also be making an investment which will prove profitable and satisfactory. The secretary (Mr W. Power) was authorised to receive appli- | cations for shares.
