SUGAR SHORTAGE.

FACTORY.CLOSES DOWN. Apparently sugar, though in short supply, is not so scarce in Taranaki as iu southern centres. Owing to the shortage of sugar, Hinton and Co., Dunedin, dispensed with twenty hands a week ago, and a week later it was found necessary to dismiss twenty more. The present intention is to. close the factory for a fortnight in the hope or supplies then being forthcoming. Referring to the above, the Dunedin Star says: "The grocers' su«ar bins are now empty, and no more will be procurable till the Navua discharges' her cargo at Dunedin on Thursday. Housekeepers will have to conserve their present supplies till then."
