HAWERA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)' Tho town is rapidly resuming its Mormal appearance after the epidemic, and on Saturday the town presented quite a busy appearance, in keeping with the approaching festive season, while business people appeared to be having quite a busy time. There appeared to be plenty of money about, as the previous day was the 20th, on which farmers receive their factory cheques. Some idea of the importance of this event to the town and district may" be gleaned from the fact that the T L Joll Company on 'Friday paid out to its suppliers (ju3t over 200) the fine sum of £28,000. Of this, £13,000 was advanced on November milk and £15,000 represented the final pay-out oh last season's milk, bringing the total pay-out for last season to Is 10' Ad per pound for butterfat. This company is only one of several whose suppliers make Hawera their principal market town. The staff of the T. L. Joll Company suffered very severely during the epidemic. Out of a total of 85, there were only about five who did not go down. The fortunate ones were the manager (Mr. Fraser), the secretary (Mr. A. Lees), the manager of the Kapuni branch (Mr W Johnson), and two employes ak the Mangawhero branch. The farmers of the district came to thfe assistance of the staff and kept the factories running. Indeed, but for two ex-cheese makers among the farmers, it would have been necessary to close two of the branches down.

Mr- J. Robertson, manager of the Mangawhero branch of the Joll Company, who has been seriously iU for some days, died at the Kaponga temporary hospital on Saturday. He is survived by a widow and three young children, the youngest being a week old.
