NORTH TARANAia PATRIOTIC LEAGUE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The weekly meeting of the above League was held in the Borough Council Office on Tuesday evening, his Worship the Mayor presiding. The Premier acknowledged receipt of a letter from the League complaining of the treatment by the Defence Department of K. J. A. Lawrence, whose services had been accepted for the front, and at the eleventh hour turned down. Mr. Massey stated that he was making inquiries from the Minister for Defence. A circular was received from the New Zealand Patriotic Society, informing the League of the altered conditions of the Maratai Land Syndicate Art Union. It was resolved to ask for further particulars. The matter of funds for wounded soldiers was discussed, and it was resolved to ascertain whether the New Plymouth League was convening a further meeting of Taranaki leagues; if not, that this League do so. The reception to be given to Private Soffe, and possibly others who are returning by the Tofua and Willoclira, was left with the chairman to arrange. The subject of relief to any returned wounded soldiers was brought before the meeting, and the chairman, secretary, and treasurer were appointed an enquiry committee to report on all cases thought necessary. It was reported that Lepperton would join the North Taranaki Patriotic League, and it was resolved that the committees visit Lepperton on Thursday week, November 4, to address a meeting at the Lepperton Hall, with a view to linking Lepperton with the League. The sums of £ll from the Honnor family, and £9 10s from the Topless family, for the Wounded Soldiers' Fundi were received.
SEASIDE LARRIKINISM. For some time past the Waitara. Seaside Improvement Societv hss been suffering great loss from the depredations of certain larrikins, who seem intent on hindering the good work which is being done by the committees, by inflicting great damage upon the property. Windows in the bathing sheds.have been deliberately broken, as well as the water taps, which have just recently been repaired, and they seem to be a special mark. The Society intends prosecuting offenders, and it is hoped that anyone able to give information will do so. When the large amount of work that has been done by a few of the committee is realised, it seems a pity that more should be thrust on them by a few senseless hoodlums. Taking the stringent financial position of the Society into consideration, it is doubtful whether the necessary money will be forthcoming to repair the damage done,
