NORMANBY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) A recruiting meeting is to lie held at Normanby on Thursday evening, and at Okaiawa on Friday, when Mr. ,T. T. M. Hornshv, M.P., and the Rev, J. W, Butler will give addresses. Mr. Hornsby is known as a fine platform speaker, 'and there is sure to be a large attendance at each of these meetings. The number of recruits allotted to Normanby in connection with the Tenth Reinforcements, to go into camp November 10, is ten. This number is required at once. Manaia and Okaiawa are asked to secure twenty more recruits by the same date. Among those who intend offering their services for the expeditionary force is the popular schoolmaster of' Okaiawa, Mr. V Innes. If accepted for service, Mr. Innes will go into camp after the New Year. Mr. Hornsby, M.P., and Mr. D. McLaren, of Wellington, visited the Waihi Cemetery on Tuesday, and inspected the Maori redoubt. The local Presbyterians intend holding a Floral Fete on November 17, when a portion of the proceeds will bo devoted to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. The price of farming land in this district is evidently increasing in value. One of our local farmers refused £OS an acre for a portion of his farm in the Town Board district. Lieut. E. L. Gordon left for Trentham on Monday morning. He has been appointed a second-lieutenant in the Tenth Reinforcements. The distribution of National Registration forms caused a flutter of excitement among the slackers. The system of registration will find out the eligible ones, and it may possibly save us from conscription. The Normanby Dairy Factory has donated six crates of cheese to the Poor o/ Belgium Relief Fund.
