WAITARA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Elbctioneeiunq matters constitute the most absorbing topic here at present. Mr. B. A. Hignett addressed a largo and representative audience in St. John's Hall yesterday evening, many people being unable to obtain admission. | Mr. Hignett spoke for about three hours on the public affairs of the district, the first part of his address having reference to Town Board affairs, and the latter part to harbour matters. The Bpeaker strongly emphasized the necessity for electing to public boards men of energy and original pereeption, and especially dwelt upon the importance of the introduction of a more broad-minded policy in connection with local harbour affairs. The chair was taken by Mr. W. F. Newbery, and at the close of the address a few were asked and readily answered. '
The Whakatane is due here on the 20th inst. to load cargo from the local Freezing Works, but thore is a possibility that the vessel may not arrive until a little later date.
