LOYAL WAKATU JUVENILE LODGE
rri ii •, • - October 3rd. ±ne tJnrty-sixth anniversary of tlie Loyal Wakatu -.Juvenile " Lod"e MU., T 1.0.0.i<'., was celebrated at tie' iiall, Vvaimea Mreet, on Tuesday evening. In addition to a large assemblage of the juveniles, there were a number of members of tlw adult lodges present. The superintendent, i-.P.Cr.M. Bro. W. H. Prebblc, who has resigned the charge of the lodge owing to his removing to the Murchison district, reviewed the progress made by the lodge dunn" tne last nine jears, the period of his supenntondency. He stated that when he was appointed there were 37 members on the surgeon's list and a bank balance of some £60, whilst at present |the membership was 79, with a balance of over £100. Fifty members had been transferred to the adult lodge, together with an amount of £37 10s. lie expressed ins thanks to the members oi both the Howard and Nelson lodges for their support, and to the members of the juvenile lodge for the manner in which they had striven to make the Jodge a success, and said he felt sure the members would rally round his successor and that the progress made during his term would only be the steppingstone towards imaging the lodge a still i greater success.
After the ample repast provided had been done full justice to, the competitions for singing and recitations were held. bongs were rendered by Bros F. Nesbit and J. Wallace, and' recita- '?> on i8n y Sl on- Basil and W. 1 rebble. As the judges considered the performances equal in merit the prize money, augmented by voluntary subscriptions from-the adult members was distributed among the contestants The District gold medal for the introduction of most members, won by Bro. C. Gaynor, and the second prize Avon by Bro. W. Prebble, were presented lo the recipients Tjy P.P.G.M. Bro. A G .Stewart.
On behalf of the members of the lodge, Bro. C. W. Lipscombe, N.G., presented the retiring superintendent, -with ji .smoker's outfit, and read an address expressing appreciation, of his services and wishing him every success in his new sphere. Bro. Prebbie, in his reply, spoke feelingly of his coiiMectioa with tho lodge, and regretted the severance. He said he expected to pay an occasional visit to Nelson, and would take tin opportunity of visiting them when possible.
Short addresses were given by P.P.G.M. Bro. G. H. Hammond, the new superintendent and • Prov. C.S Bro. A. G. Shrimpton, and the proceedings terminated with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
