WAKEFIELD CLUB.

(From "Tho Colonist," Sept. 29.)

On Saturday afternoon the Wakefield Bowling Club opened its green for the season under favourable conditions. Besides a large number of ladies and members of the club, there were present visitors from the Nelson, Maitai, Takaka, Westport, Reef ton, and Greymouth Clubs. The green was in splendid order, and its good appearance pointed to the largo amount of work having been done to it during-the recess. Mr A. H. Hodgson in opening the green expressed his pleasure at seeing so many visitors present. The green was annually improving, and it had been proved to have been well and truly laid and he had' every hope for a successful season. Mr Hodgson , referred to the-good work done by Mr Longton prior to leaving th. uistxict, and he regretted that Mr H. J. Harris, who had also done yeoman service for the club, was also about to leave them. He thanked them; on behalf of the club for their interest; He hoped new members would be forthcoming to help to keep the club successfully going. They would find in the game of bowls many attractions and would, in addition, make many good friends. He declared the green open amidst applause Mrs Hodgson, wife of the president, bowling the first bowl. Five full rinks were engaged m a match, President (Mr Hodgson) and Vice-presidents (Mr S. Baigent), _tne latter's side winning by 105 toi 91. The following are the scores, the -1 resident's team being given first in each case: _ _ ■~ Baird, Evan,. Hodgson, J. Prior to leaving for town Mr 6. Hogg, President of tho Nelson Club, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the Wralcefield Club for the pleasant day spent. Three cheers were given the ladies, Wakefield Club, and the visitors.
