MOTUEKA.

The usual weekly mooting of tho Motueka Social and Literary (JiuL> was hold on Monday evening, Mr W. E. Poole being in the chair. The entertainment took the form of a debate on the question, "That New Zealand should join Australia in the naval defence of the Pacific." The ailirmative was taken by Messrs F. Rodger (leader), L. Manoy, Forsyth, Thorp, andPhillips, and the negative side was composed of Messrs Caiiavan (loader), Griffin, Thompson, Jaquos, and Piko. The'discussion was most interesting, and at the close of the debate the voting was equal, tho chairman giving !>;-.■> casting vote to the negative 'side. On next ivJonday evening two papers will be road! Mr Griffin will take "C«r----lylc" for the subject of his paper, and Dr Paxton will give a paper on "Anaesthetics."
