A habeas corpus action is being heard at Montreal, the wife of Osborne Haynes, an American broker, seeking the custody of a child the father had kidnepped. The wife declares herself to be the daughter of Archduke Rudolph of Austria, wlio committed suicide after his marriage with an Austrian baroness. Mrs Haynes states that Haynos ill treated hoi because she failed to secure the Austrian Emperor's recognition, and she was now seeking divorce.
