(From "The Colonist/ Feb. 20.) There was only a small attendance at the swimming sports of the Nelson awnnwnmg Club on Saturday. The scratch men could not reach the limit men, Batchelor winning by live yards. All schools championship, 50yds: First heat: N. Grant 1, F. Hamilton 2, I<. Everett 3; time 35sees. Second neat: V. McDonald's Beachcombers (scr) 1, Graham's Foundry Ironsides (4sees) 2, Emerson's Ink Slingers (4secs) 3 ; time 2.59. Emerson swam a beautiful race over the last fifty yards, but could not makct "up the lost ground. The polo match between Old Boys and Swimming Club resulted in a win for the Swimming Club by 4 goals to 3. ; In the first half Saumlcrs and Thomas ! scored for the swimmers, and Emerson | and Batchelor for Old Boys. Saunders and Switzor in the second spell scored for the Swimmers and Batchelor for Old Boys. i * Feb. 24. The Nelson Swimming Olub held raeos at the Port on Wednesday and last night for a championship trophy I presented, by Dr Andrew. On the first occasion Emerson won the 100 yards race by two yards, Coote being r,i>co.::d. The time was 71 seconds. Last night the 220 yards race resulted :—Emerson 1, Oldershaw 2, Coote 3, Emerson won fairly easily in 3 min.s 5 2-sth sees. In vkw of fchb result of those races, it will not bo necesary for the. third distance, 440 yds, to bo completed.
