DRUIDS' PICNIC AND SPORTS.
Yesterday the Nelson Druids (M:iitai Lodgi.) made a new departure, and a very good one —they went in for a picnic and sports. The place selected was Wakefield, the beautiful 'Domain having been placed at their disposal. The excursion left Nelson in the morning, and the excursionists included a very considerable number of women ami children. The company was joined by the Tapawera and Wakefield Lodges, and altogether about 500 persons took part in the day's festivities. All sorts of games were provided for the children, and there was an abundant supply of refreshments. The sports attracted most attention. The various events were very well contested, and the following are the results of the principal items in the list :—' 50yds Wheelbarrow Race : Harris and Bro. .Simpson J, Bio. McConchie 2. 100 yds Lady's Bracelet Race: Bro. A. Taylor (nominated by Miss Clinic) 1 Bro. R. Thompson (nominated by Mrs Carmine) 2. Druids' Handicap 100 yds Race: Bro. Johnson (9yds) ], Bra, Brown (Byds) 2, Bro. Hogg (ser).3. There Mas a large number of entries for this race, which had to bs- run in two heats, the final being a very close race. Sack Race: Bro. Mead 1, Bro. Thomas 2. Throe-legged Race: Bros. Thomasori and Thomas 1, Bros. Thomas and Griffiths 2. Potato Race: Bro. A. Hoult 1, Bro. Thomas 2, Bro. Thomason 3. Cutting Turk's Head: Bros. Bethvraite, Young, and Bradley were sucoessful in hitting the head. This event created much amusement, several of the competitors, -who were blindfolded, going in an opposite direction before striking. / Ladies' Raes: Miss Linton 1, Miss Heise 2. Bandsmen's Race : F. Aydon 1, McCracken 2, Johansen 3. There Mere, several children's races, in which most of the youngsters took part. They also had a merry time in scrambling for lollies, of which the supply was very bountiful. The commit too, who carried out the arrangement:; very err-ditably, wvr.' the following brethren : —Bro. Hogg (starter), Bro. Lamb (referee), .Bro. Cl'-appell (secretary), Bros. Taylor, Sinclair, Yereoe, Rotln.vell, J. Neale, Bray, Fawcett, Thompson, Preen, Simpson, Bethwaito, Karsten. Bros. Harris, Durbridge, aiid Johnson of the Wakefield lodge, assisted. Uvad'.imes Bethv.aite, Tunniclilfo, e.r.d .1. Neale, and the Mir.res Heise and M'illican rendered <;o::(l rervic.. l in caring, for the children's wants. Tit:' Nelson Citizens' Jb.ml enlivened the proceedings with a v .11 executed programme of music.
