Mr-Taft is confident that tho policy of broader and closer commercial relations will receive tlio hearty support of tho nation. Hcsuggests that Sir Wilfrid Laurier should consider a readjustment of relations on broader and more liberal lines.' Mr Fielding, referring to the reductions effected with a view to settling tho present differences and meeting Washington's desiro to facilitate reciprocity negotiations, expressed satisfaction that the United States was not disposed to press its earlier contention respecting Canada's commercial treaties. which ho from tho Canadian standpoint was unable to admit.
