Tlie Taupo correspondent of the "New Zealand Herald 1 ' reports that an alarming landslide occurred at the native settlement of Wmhi, a mile westward of-Tokaanu, on the shores of Lake Taupo, yesterday morning when the hillside behind the village began to bodily slip away. It then forced Z way to the lake, carrying whares, houses, and everything in its track The landslide has now spread out about three chains into tlie lake m deep the natives had littie warning, and one of them, named Wi Tamaiwhana, was killed, and others 4ere injured through the falling der The hill is still slipping and the natives are hurrying away from Waihi vUlage, as tihey expect tlie whole placo to he demolislied. It is only a .short distance from where the other memorable landslip occurred in March, 1846, when the village of Te Rapa was overwhelmed by a lanaslide, and all tho inhabitants killed except three who escaped. Ono of the latter was the mother of AM Tamaiwhana, now killed in this slide. . Tho natives are in a great state of excitement, and are hurrying off with theLr household goods and escaping from what they consider the^ impending doom of the beautiful village of Waihi.
