MURCHISON

On Saturday, November 20th, the statutory meeting of the Murchison Dairy Company,'" Ltd., was held at the' company's office, there being a good' attendance of shareholders. The principal business of the meeting was the appointment of permanent directors. All except one of the provisional directors accepted nomination, and. for a board of seven directors nine nominations were received, viz., Messrs F. H. O'Brien, H. J. -Stewart, Alex. Thomson, sonr., John Main, Joseph Brown, C G. Morel, F. C. Page, R. O'Cannoay and C. T. N. Trower. A ballot was taken, the result being in- favour of the seven first named. Several questions were put to the chairman and secretary in reference to finance, etc., which sliowed that suppliers took an active interest in the affairs of the company. The directors were able to make the very satisfactory announcement that the first .shipment of export butter sent out of the factory had graded first grade in Wellington. This result reflects much credit on the manager (Mr Dinwiddle), as he is heavily handicapped - by having to send the butter so far by road, rail, and boat before it reaches the grading stores, but credit is also due to suppliers, .who' evidently supplied the manager . with good material to work upon. _, The building boom, which has been in progress for about twelve months past, shows no sign of languishing, in fact, at the present time there are a greater number of buildings either -being built or to build very soon than usual. Mr J. Bennett, of Hardy street, Nelson, has hi an advanced stage of construction one of the finest buildings in. the township. Built of excellent timber, and strengthened by numerous heavy bolts in -the frantawork, it will be a very substantial building, and is to ba used as a store and dwelling. Messrs Bredbury and Bastiu have the erection of their largo two-storey premises (some CO by 30 feet), situated near the butter factory, well in hand, and this building, when finished,, promises to attract attention, standing, as it does, on a high, terrace some 12 feet above the rest of the town. Mr Clough is preparing the foundations for his wheelwright's and upholstery estnhlisTimenib, opposite Hodgson's, in Fairfax street, and the Dairy Company are making preparations for the erection of the factory manager's house. In regard to the excellent buildings just rcceiiitiy completed -in our totvn, it- would take a whole column of your pap?r to give a fair description of them all, s:i with your permission this will be done some other time.
