London, January March o. The upsetting of candles set tire to timbering in the llampsea colliery. Birmingham. Nine miners traversed the flames, and escaped, hut 21 returned to the workings. A rat. lowered to test the atmosphere, was brought, up alive. Later, two men were rescued in a semi-consci-ous state. They are recovering. It is said that shut doors prevented the smoke reaching their comrades, and it is hoped that all are ssfe.
