FAILING TO KEEP PROPER BOOKS.

Tiniaru, February 5. At the Supreme Court this morning A. L. Zouch, of Ashburton, wag found guilty of failing to keep proper books, and was ordered to enter into one recognisance of £50 to come up for sentence when called upon. His Honour said that he agreed with the jury, but did not like to send a man to '"gaol for this offence'; through graere. careleaness. He was not altogether satisfied with accused's conduct t and he intended to gee more information concerning the ca3e from the Official Assignee with a view to ascertaining whether the accused had an ulterior motive in destroying^ the butts of his cheques.
