THE JESSIE MACLACHI'AN CONCERT SEASON.
After a most successful tour through Canada, the United States, and Australia, Miss Jessie Maclachlan, the Scottish soprano, will give two farewell concerts at the Theatre Royal, commencing on Saturday next. It is said that Miss Maclachlan is imbued with a deep and intense love for her country, and of ita m ins t rely, and that she infuses into her singing a spirit and fervour which makes a deep impression upon those who hear her. She is said tn be a vocalist of rare ability, and one who possesses a soprano voice of great power and brilliancy of tone. As a singer of Scotch songs, Miss Maclachlan is acknowledged to stand out pre-eminently, while in the songs o3 England and Ireland, the prima donna is said to be equally at home, showing that she possesses the true artistic spirit. In Mr Douglas Young it is said the company possesses a tenor of rare ability, whilst Mr McLinden's 'cello bolos are also most artistic. Mr Buchanan adds to the completeness of the com- ' pany by his excellent accompaniments. .

' r^This evening, in St. John's' Schoolroom,'the 1 Rev. C. H. Garland will deliver a^leotureon "The Poetry and Philosophy of CorHtdoii- Words;;"; Mr Grant, of the. Land Office, will preside. . At the Druids' Hall this even in, a ooncert'and social will be given by those connected with St. Mary's Church. A very pleasing programme has be9n arranged, to which the following have kindly consented to contribute t— Mrs Wright, Miss Driscoll, Mr ' Shone, and Mr Taster.; The Stoke Orphanage boyg\will also sing* some chof uses, and altogether a pleasant evening may be looked for. On Friday evening the usual pupils' concert will be given in the School of Music. Tickets of admission may be obtained from the Secretary (Mr T.B. Huffam). The Harmonic Society will give its next concert on Thursday evening, at the School of Music The tiokets are two shillings each, and those desirous of .reserving a seat can do so at Mr Jackson's, sixpence extra being charged.
