The town bridge at Kaihu is badly damaged. The Pangitoror«a wharf was carried away and considerable damage has been dene at the Tutamoe bush workings. Further details of the Groat Bar rier fatality is to the effect that the oamp of the Austrians, who were engaged in gum - digging, )>as pitched on the bank of the creek on an island between Blind bay and Whakapara. The creek rose very rapidly as a result of the downpour on Wednesday and Thursday. The fresh undermined tbe camp, which, without w arning was engulphed in the swollen torrent. Four Austrians were in the camp at the time and all were precipitated into the stream. Three were carried away and it is feared that they were drowned. JThe fourth managed with difficulty to reach the bank and struggled out of the water. He made a rapid and diligent search for his companions, but without success. He then went to Blind Bay, where he saw Constable Johnson, who organised a search party in tbe hope of finding some ofthe unfortunate men still alive.
