The President and the Secretary of the Canterbury (New Zealand) Trades and Labor Council, in a letter to the "Manchester Guardian," warns Englishmen against coming to New Zealand, and point out that the I labor market is overstocked, a considerable number of artisans and laborers being idle, chiefly owing to the inrush of British and Australian immigrants. Berlin, Octoberl 7. Herr Tofel, the German explorer, states that he met Japanese officers I acting as spies in remote parts of j China, even far towards Thibet. Many were disguised as Buddhist monks.
