HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.
The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, London, dated 10th inst. : — There has been a better tone iH ; the mutton market this week, with no change in prices for New Zealand. River Plate mutton advanced Md per lb. — rrr:fjffl| [ The lamb market is weak for this season's shipment. The average ! price for New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is S^d per lb (nominal). There is a better demand for beef, stocks of New Zealand beef on hand being light. The average price for hindquarters of New Zealaud beef is 3%d per lb, fores 27^d per lb. The butter market is steady, and demand is getting better. Prospects are rather more encouraging. The average price of- choicest New Zealand toutter to-day is 106s per cwt, Danish ll4s. The cheese market is dull, at GOs per cwt. The hemp market is quiet, prices being slightly weaker. The price of New Zealand hemp, "good fair Wellington" grade, on spot, to-day, per ton is £33; January-March shipments. £32 10s. The cocksfoot seed market is steady, but the! demand is only moderate. Prices are firm. The prices of New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171 b per bushel, on spot, is 54s per cwt.
