NELSON RIFLES.

HALF-YEARLY MEETING. The half-yearly meeting of this aorps was held at the N.C.O.'s Club Koom on Sept. Bth, when there was a large attendance, including Captain Stiles (who presided), Chaplain Captain MacKenzie, Lieuts. Stewart and Hill. An apology was received from Captain Simpson, honorary member. Previous minutes were read and confirmed. The report was read, and the following is a resume: — >\ Captain Stiles)3presented the halfyearly balance sheet and report. The former showed that in both the company's funds there was a most gratifying credit balance sheet and no liabilities. The corps, in addition to this, are well uniformed and provided for. The report stated that the first parade of the year was held to welcome back to Nelson Champion Milroy, who won the New Zealand Rifle Association championship, and that in all twelve parades had been held, with an average attendance of 40. Chaplain Captain MacKenzie had been presented with a twelve years' long service medal, which made the nineteenth issued to membres of the corps. Reference was made to the Easter encampment, the benefit derived from the School of Instruction, and to the new drill shed, the opinion being expressed that the larger structure would be more comfortable and better suited for drill. The Committee offered inducements to members to encourage shooting, and regret was expressed at the death of two late members, Privates F. Emms and J. Bradley. Satisfaction was expressed at the initiation of a N. CO. Club by the N.C.O.'s of the Ist N. 1.8., and the report concluded by urging members to do their best to advance the corps. Both report and balance sheet were unanimously adopted. A letter was received from Sergt. .Bell, Secretary|of the N.C.O's Club, recognising the valuable assistance given to the Olub in the formation of it. The matter of an orderly room for the corps was considered, and correspondence read. Captain Stiles reported to the satisfaction of the men that a room was to be provided in the shed for the corps. The following Orderly Room Committee was elected, to hold office for 12 months :~Sergts. Mitchener and Hill, Corporals Fieldes and Rieketts, Private Simpson, and officers ex officio. A Shooting Committee was elected as follows:— Color-Sergt. Johnson, Sergts Frank, and Hill, LanceCorporals Webley and Kerr, "Privates Simpson and N. Manson. Resolved, that the New Zealand Clothing Factory trophy be fired in five competitions, one each month, four to count; 3 ranges. 7 shots, handicap, the officers to handicap. Resolved, that teams be entered for competitions onjTrafalgar Day. Resolved, thatSthe annual training camp be held on"the usual date, and a committee wasi appointed to arrange to procure a tent A for the corps. Resolved, that hatSj be procured for the blue uniform. § " J^ Betore dispersing, Captain Stiles expressed his thanks for the^cordial support tendered by all ranks during the past half year, and!
