NELSON GARRISON RANGE ASSOCIATION.

The annual meeting of this Association was held on Sept. 7fch. at the N.C.O. 's Club room, when the following were present, representing their respective corps:— Captains Stiles, Hammond, Harris, Lieut. Hill, * QuartermasterSergt. Wimsett, Private Sclanders, and the Secretary and Treasurer, Color-Sergt. Oakley. Lieut. -Colonel Wolfe was unable to be present, but Captain Trask, Dis- 1 trict Adjutant, attended to explain that A sum of £50 had been allotted for repairs to the Mudflat Eange. Captain Stilesfpresided. Minutes were read and confirmed. The Secretary read the annual report, which pointed out with satisfaction that by the formation of the Association the condition of shooting at the Mudflat Range had 1 materially improved, and that matters in general were far more satisfactory 4han hitherto. Various suggestions, considered later on by the representatives present, were made as to the most immediate necessary improvements. The balance sheet showed that nearly all the town corps had contributed towards the Association's funds, the sale of empty cartridge shells amounting to £6, which, with contributions, brought the receipts to £28 10s. The reconstruction of the butts and target cost £21 17s lid, and a balance to credit remained of £3 17s7d. „ .. Correspondence was read from Lieut. -Colonel Wolfe re £50 grant for range repairs, and from the Nelson Rifles' Shooting Committee, suggesting necessary range improvements. It was unanimously resolved to ' recommend to the Officer Commanding the District that— (l) The markers' butts be rebuilt; (2) the planking and handraiiing attended to; (3) mounds require strengthening and grading; (4) concrete protection placed round mounds; (5) telephone construction : and that a committee, consisting of Captains Stiles and Harris and the Secretary, with the 0.C.D., visit the range, and that the Resident Engineer be requested to attend to go into details and cost. Resolved, that Lieut. -Colonel Wolfe, Captains Stiles, Madigan, and Hammond be a committee to draw up rules for the government of the Association and range, and report to an Executive meeting. Resolved, that the allotment of days for shooting being suitable to the several corps, that the mornings, afternoons, and evenings for shooting be the same as last year. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the Secratary(Color-Sergt. Oakley) for the interest he had taKen in, and the work done for, the Association last year. m A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated $he meeting.
