NELSON SAILING CLUB.

The annual meeting of the abovenamed Club was held on Sept. 4th, at the Port, in the Club's room, when there was a fair attendance of members. In the absence of the Commodore, Mr H. V. Gully was voted to the chair. Mr A. J. Glasgow, the Secretary, read the minutes, which were confirmed. Mr J. Glasgow, in the unavoidable absence of the Treasurer, presented the balance sheet, which showed the ' Club had a credit balance of £42 15s, and last year disbursed £44 in prizes. It was stated that the last regatta yielded a profit of £7 ss. Resolved that the balance sheet be adopted. Resolved that the admission of Messrs F. Hewitson, W. Moore, and F. Healy by the Committee as members be confirmed. Resolved that Messrs George Mercer, George Noble, W. Murdoch, Thomas Brown, 0. Winstanley, and • .' Captain Collins be admitted as - members of the Club. The election of officers resulted as follows:— -Commodore: Messrs J. Glasgow, M. A. Jenny, and Phil Moore were nominated. The two first-named withdrew, and Mr Phil Moore was declared elected. ViceCommodore: Mr M. A. Jenny was elected unopposed. Secretary: Mr A. J. Glasgow was re-elected unopposed. Treasurer: Mr A. E. GreenBlade was elected unopposed. Auditor, Mr J. Glasgow, re-elected. , Starters: Captain Collins and Mr 3. H. Dayman. Handicappers : Left to the Committee. : Left to the starters. As regards the Committee, it was resolved to elect two from the owners of power boats, and two for the 3ailing boats. Captain McNabb and F. Moore were elected for the former ; and Messrs H. V. Gully and F. Bethwaite for the latter. Mr M. A. Jenny wrote offering a donation of five guineas as prize money or trophies for Club races. A vote of thanks was carried by accla- • mation to Mr Jenny for his handsome gift. The opening day of the season was left to the Committee to arrange with the Rowing Club. & The matter of the loss of an anchor which was lent to the Harbor Board to be used for mooring the Board's punts, was left to the Secretary to get the anchor replaced. Some discussion took place as to the Club procuring a shed of its own. It was tho unanimous opinion ■ of the meeting that it was desirable •that the Club should- possess a shed. Resolved that the Committee make inquiries as to the purchase of the Rowing Clubs shed, and formulate a scheme for procuring same, and re port to a general meeting of members to be held on September 25th. * Resolved that all members of the Club who would place their boats in the shed, if procured, and who are willing to give financial assistance towards procuring the shed notify at once to the Secretary. Mr Johnson kindly offered the ' Club the use of the old Naval Brigade shed, which he had acquired, until the Club obtained a shed. Mr Johnson's kindness was appreciated, but it was considered best to at once procure, the Rowing Club's shed, which would shortly be offered for aale. The question of holding a regatta was postponed to a future meeting. Mr Jenny moved the motion he had given notice of to alter the name of the Club. He said the name should be one combining the motor and sailing boats. He moved that the Club be re-named the Nelson Sailing and Power Boat Club. Seconded by Captain McNabb, and carried unanimously. Resolved that Messrs J. Glasgow, Jenny and Gully be a committee to revise the Club's rales, and make any new rules necessary under the new name given to the Club. The Committee to report on September 25th at the general meeting. Mr Jenny spoke of the absence of gatherings of members. Hejthought that during the season they should take a cruise together. Resolved that the Secretary forward a congratulatory telegram to Mr O. J. Deck, the ex-Commodore, on the occasion of his marriage at Motueka to-morrow (Tuesday). Resolved that the members of the Club hare the use of its room in the erenings.
