RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING.

(Per United Press Association.)

Tbentham, March 5.

The New Zealand Rifle Association's meeting opened this morning. The arrangements appear very satisfactory ; additional targets have been erected to enable 29 squads to fire, and a number of minor improvements have been made to remedy defects noticeable at the previous meeting. Colontl Sommerville is in charge of affairs, | assisted by Colonel Collins, and no pain 3 are spared by the officers to make the meeting a success. The shooting in the Auckland Match was phenomenal, being a record for the Colony, and probably for Australasia. The men never shot better in an opening match, and Hyde (OpaH) and Lester (Christchurch) each made 100 out of a possible 105. Even with perfect light and weather this is remarkable. Turner (Wellington) was little

fcenirid, patting up 99, while Speck and CUiog \ Wairaea) made 98 each, wbicn In ordinary years would have secured first place. . , „„- , Auckland Match, 200, 500. and 680 yds ; 7 shots at each 1 ..
