England v. New Zealand.
Second Test Match.
Wellington, March 5.
The weather conditions were perfect when play was resumed this morning, and the wicket appeared to be none the worse from yesterday's play. The Englishmen kept the New Zealanders in the field till just on 5 p.m., the record at the last wicket being 380, or 106 in advance of the colonials' score. Warner played a magnificent, chanceless innings, and got within 23 of Reese's big score of the previous day. Johnson infused plenty of vigor into his play, but should have been sent to the right about on about four occasions. The bowling honors fell to Callaway, who got on to a weak spot, and repeatedly sbuck up the batsmen. Richardson m.\de a great mistake in not persevering with the Canterbury man in the morning. The fielding of the the New Zealanders was very slovenly, Lusk being a noted offender in this respect, but good work was done by Mahoney, Reese, and Tucker. Behind the wickets Williams was not seen at his best, letting the ball pass him with monotonous regularity. In the sixty minutes left for play the colonials lost two good wickets. The attendance was computed at about] 2500.
