THE VOLUNTEERS.
H BATTERY, The Battery struck camp on Monday evening, after fourteen days' training, and .probably never in the existence of the Battery has so much good work been accomplished, and the importance of artillery work demon st- tied. The Battery ware fortunate in o taining the valuable services of Staff Serjeant-Major Eichai'dson, who possesses a thorough knowledge of his work, and has a fine method of imparting it, and interesting those under training. The work generally has been heavy, but the members have accepted all duties pleasantly, and a vast amount of sound, practical information has been obtained. Before dismissing, Captain Madigan thanked the Battery for the support given him, and cheers were given for the captain and offie«i*3. SergtMajor Richardson leaves for Wellington to-day. j NELSON RIFLE CADETS. On Monday evening the Cadets again met for the purpose of electing officers. Captain Andrews presided, and there was a good attendance,, and some additional candidates were accepted, full strength now being reached. Mr Wimsett withdrew irotn the second lieutenancy, and Corporal Glover and Private F. Hill, of the adult corp3, were elected first and second lieutenants* respectively.
