JOHNSTON'S UNITED MINE.
I HALF-YEARLY MEETING. On Jan. 2-3th the half-yearly meeting of the shareholders in the abovenamed mine was held at Mr Bamford's office. Mr J. A. Harley was voted to the chair. The Directors' report and balance sheet were read. The Chairman said the report was short because there was really nothing to state, as the shareholders knew that the property was under offer to a syndicate, whose expert was expected daily to report on the same. On the motion of Mr James Johnston, seconded by Mr C. R. Harley, the report and balance sheet were adopted. On the motion of Mr James Johnston, seconded by the Hon. Richard Reeves, the Directors were re-elected. On the motion of the Hon. Richard Reeves, seconded by Mr Ambrose Moore, the Auditors (Messrs Hounsell and Newman) were re-elected. The remuneration of Directors and Auditors to be the same as in the previous half-year. On the motion of the Hon. Richard Reeves, seconded by Mr Thomas Brown, a vote of tbanks was passed to the Directors. Mr Bamford, the legal manager, read the following report, dated Bedstead, Collingwood, January 17th : — " I forwarded by the packers on Saturday last two bags of copper ore obtained from a face of three feet in thickness about midway between the West drive and No. 2 pass. The samples I have sent are of good quality for the class of ore, and were taken promiscuously from the lode. There is a good deal of sulphate of copper in the samples, which has formed since the stope was abandoned some years ago. If a small portion is washed in an iron dish, the dish will immediately become coated with copper, i-.hu wing the richness of the copper. " The reef in No. 4 level (Perseverance) ■ contains copper sulphide intermixed in the quartz. I have taken out some quartz which shows gold freely, and a good prospect of loose gold can be obtained from the reef besides. j " A continuation of the same class of stone is showing in the upper side of the old Decimal stope, but as the roof of the workings has coilaped, I cannot theroughly examine the quartz, but it will probably contain the same prospects as that showing at the end of No. 4 level. — W. Johnston." The samples of the copper ore were examined bp the shareholders. A vote of thanks to the Chairman brought the meeting to a close.
