MR. SKEY'S VERDICT.
In another column we publish a letter from Mr Jacobsen, wherein the writer refers to the experiments he has made. At the same time, we have to state that some stone, which, in outward appearance, is precisely similar to that which exists on Mr Jacobsen's holding, and from which he states he has obtained the results he describes, was recently sent to Mr Skey, the Government Analyst, in order that it might be tested. The stone referred to wes obtained some distance from Mr Jacobsen's claim, but, as we have said, the stone appears to be of precisely similar composition, and the two specimens may be seen at the office of this paper. As to the specimen sent to the Government Laboratory, Mr Skey declares that he tested same for gold and platina, but found that it was composed of hematite and pyrites. He furthermore stated that he was not able to detect either gold or platina in the stone.
