THE PERSEVERANCE MINE.
To the Editor of the Colonist. ' Sib, —The Mining Manager of the Perseverance, Company, in his letter to the Examiner, of April 30lh, makes it appear that part of the blame bestowed upon him by some of the shareholders, ought to be borne by the qualified person sent from Nelson. As I am meant by this qualified person, I trust that you ■will allow me space to state, that I never was consuited in the purchase of the £80 pump, or any other pump. In my report to the Directors, I stated that tho pump in nee is thoroughly unfit for the work, and the pipes are too small. The friction in the rods is unnecessarily great. I told them, likewise, that I believed the £80 pump (whioh I did not examine), to be far better adapted for the purpose required than the one in us 9. The correctness of the above will be borne out by the Directors.—l am, &0., H. A. Lbvastam. Nelson, May 12,1873.
